Elaboration of ceramic parts of complex shapes by combined use of Spark Plasma Sintering and additive manufacturing technologies

SAFRAN Ceramics called on CIRIMAT to study the combined implementation of unconventional sintering processes (i.e. Spark Plasma Sintering: SPS) and additive manufacturing on powdery materials to develop c-eramic parts of complex geometries. This includes studying the influence of the material characteristics and parameters of the two processes on their densification.

The Research Engineer must:

  • Perform the bibliographic search on the defined project. Supply in connection with SAMC and characterize the selected materials (ceramic and metallic),
  • Define SPS densification parameters for the selected materials,
  • Define parameters for the production of green bodies by additive manufacturing technique and optimize their densification by SPS.
  • Densify by SPS the powder raw materials and green bodies by SPS on simple and complex geometries to obtain parts that meet the intended application.
  • Perform Physical, Chemical and mechanical characterizations of the materials and assemblies obtained.
  • Demonstrate rigor, high autonomy level, teamwork, responsiveness and adaptability.

Many characterization techniques will be used (XRD, SEM, mechanical tests)

The candidate must hold an engineering degree (or equivalent) or a PhD in Materials Science. He/Her should have good knowledge in the field of ceramic sintering, on Spark Plasma Sintering and Additive Manufacturing processes.
