POSITION FILLED
Research Project:
Study of molecules/oxide substrates by mixing calorimetry
Research Team: CIRIMAT
Project duration: 4-6 months, starting between january and march 2019
Supervisors: Christophe Drouet, Maëlenn Aufray
Project
Several industrial processes involve interactions between molecular species dissolved in a solvent and a substrate surface. By modifying the chemical nature of the molecule and/or the substrate, it then becomes possible to modulate the type and energy of interaction involved. The latter is however rarely evaluated on a quantitative basis, and the selection of molecule/substrate systems often relies on observations/characterization performed afterward rather than in situ. In this project, in direct link with a French industrial partner, the interaction between a selection of molecules and substrates of applicative interest will be measured by mixing microcalorimetry. The enthalpies measured will allow comparing the systems tested. The effect of various parameters (solvent, molar concentration, substrate mass, pH…) will be followed. Physicochemical characterization will also be performed on selected substrates before and after interaction as well as on supernatants, and kinetics/isotherms of adsorption will be determined, if necessary, on the most relevant systems.
Financing on industrial research contract. Start within the 3 next months.
