Project Title :
“Mechanochemistry Applied to Peptides”
Host Laboratory: Green Chemistry & Enabling Technologies group , Institute of Biomolecules Max Mousseron
Length of Contract: 1 year renewable
Supervisors: Frédéric Lamaty and Thomas-Xavier Métro
Context
PolyPeptide Laboratories France (100 employees) is the French subsidiary of PolyPeptide Group (800 employees), world leader in the research, development and production of synthetic peptides. As a service provider for the pharmaceutical industry, PolyPeptide Laboratories believes that innovation and technology are the foundations of the company to position itself in the marketplace and build the future.
The Institute of Biomolecules Max Mousseron (IBMM), UMR 5247 affiliated with the CNRS, the University of Montpellier and the ENSCM, is composed of 180 permanent employees and 280 people. The research program on biomolecules concerns their design, synthesis and pharmacology.
PolyPeptide and IBMM want to initiate a collaboration in the field of peptide mechanochemistry within a global green chemistry development project and are looking for a Post-Doc for a duration of one year (renewable)
Project
A member of the Department of Amino Acids, Peptides and Proteins and under the responsibility of Dr. Frédéric Lamaty and Dr Thomas-Xavier Métro (Green Chemistry and Enabling Technologies team), in cooperation with Prof. Gilles Subra (Amino Acids and Peptides team), your mission is to develop the technology developed in the laboratory, to understand its potentials and limits, and to prepare for its industrialization.
This work will be carried out mainly on the premises of the IBMM, with a strong interaction with the R & D teams of the PolyPeptide Group.
The main lines of research will be:
- Study of the amino acid coupling and deprotection steps for the synthesis of model peptides.
- Study of inter- and intramolecular reaction kinetics, comparison of impurities generated in comparison with traditional synthesis routes (SPPS and LPPS)
- dentification of the potential limits of the synthesis strategy, definition of the fields of application offering an interest compared to the traditional synthesis routes (SPPS and LPPS)
- Process study allowing the industrialization of the concept based on reactive extrusion approach : proof of concept; optimization of the process; case study and economic comparison with traditional synthesis routes; scale-up study in preparation for the industrialization of the developed process.
Candidate Profile
As a chemist by training, you have a thorough knowledge of organic chemistry and peptide synthesis, ideally supplemented by notions of mechanochemistry. You have a strong knowledge in process engineering that allows you to tackle scaling up issues and industrial projection of your research.
