Friday 12 October, Jean-Luc Moudenc, the mayor of Toulouse and president of the Toulouse Metropole, visited the Centre Interuniversitaire de Recherche et d’Ingénierie des Matériaux (CIRIMAT), a component of the Chimie Balard Cirimat Carnot Institute.

The occasion for a dialogue with the researchers of the centre.

Jean-Luc Moudenc’s visit of the CIRIMAT labs, located on the INP (Institut National Polytechnique) and ENSIACET (Ecole Normale Supérieure des Ingénieurs en Arts Chimiques et Technologiques) campuses, was composed of two sessions: after discussions with the research personnel came a presentation of the technical platforms.

CIRIMAT, experts in the science and engineering of materials

The CIRIMAT is a mixed research unit (UMR) composed of 7 research groups. This Centre brings together the Toulouse region’s expertise in the science and engineering of materials. Their research is centred around 4 scientific axes:

  • Materials science
  • Nanomaterials
  • Coatings and deposition processes
  • Ageing and durability of materials

The meeting with Mr. Moudenc was the occasion to highlight the internationally recognised expertise of the research teams in these domains. Mr. Moudenc’s programme included time for exchanges with CIRIMAT researchers on their areas of research and specific  projects.

The CIRIMAT is also part of the Chimie Balard Cirimat Carnot Institute, whose mission is to facilitate technology transfer and research collaborations between the academic and industrial worlds.

State-of-the-art equipment for the characterisation of nanomaterials

In the second part of the visit, the Mayor of Toulouse and his advisors were shown the technical platform of the INP/ENSIACET, where equipment for the characterisation of nanomaterials was presented. This equipment, financed by the Nanomat project included in the Higher Education, Research, Innovation section of the  2015–2020 Federal-Region Contract Plan (CPER, PDF in French), completes the existing park of instrumentation for the characterisation of materials.

The state-of-the-art equipment financed by this project includes: an ellipsometre and a UV-vis-NIR spectrometer, as well as a near-IR module and a dual piezoelectric scanner for the confocal RAMAN microscope.
