2017 was a watershed year for our Institute. The fusion of two institutes meant learning to work together to promote our R&D in Chemistry, Materials and Processes, both in France and abroad. Read about our response to these challenges, our research and highlights of the year in our annual report.
Promoting an enhanced R&D expertise to companies
2017 was an important year for our Institute. Created in 2016 by the fusion of two existing Carnot Institutes, Chimie Balard and Cirimat, the Chimie Balard Cirimat Carnot Institute now brings together more than 600 researchers. They are members of four research centres located in Montpellier and Toulouse: European Institute of Membranes, Max Mousseron Biomolecules Institute, Charles Gerhardt Institute of Montpellier (CNRS, ENSCM, University of Montpellier) and the Centre Interuniversitaire de Recherche et d’Ingénierie des MATériaux (CNRS, National Polytechnic Institute of Toulouse, University of Toulouse Paul Sabatier).
The past 12 months have brought many changes. From harmonising the internal modes of operation to proposing a structured and legible offer of services for companies, these changes were made so that the Institute would prosper and to position it amongst the best R&D centres for Chemistry, Materials and Processes. The strong territorial base of the Institute in the Occitanie region of southern France is a plus that has allowed us to develop collaborations and R&D projects with local companies and to participate in regional events. Nonetheless, the Institute regularly crosses its regional borders to engage in research partnerships in both France and in other countries. We will work to develop these collaborations even further in the coming months.
From past challenges to future successes: the Chimie Balard Cirimat Carnot Institute prepares for 2018
In 2017 we met the challenge to animate and promote this new Carnot Institute. This success is due to the commitment of all of the Institute’s actors—researchers, institutional and industrial partners—who we warmly thank for their efforts.
In 2018, the Chimie Balard Cirimat Carnot Institute will continue to propose its recognised expertise in Chemistry, Materials and Processes to industrial partners. The Institute will also continue to support research and scientific excellence in its laboratories. Lastly, the Institute will continue to be part of a renewed dynamic in which partnerships, innovation and research together constitute a powerful motor to drive progress and achieve success.
