Thomas Duguet, laureate of the FEMS Communication Award for Excellence in MSE for 2019

Thomas Duguet chercheur au CIRIMAT

Thomas Duguet, researcher in the SURF group of the CIRIMAT, is the laureate of the FEMS Communication Award for Excellence in Materials Science & Engineering for 2019.

Thomas received his award from the Federation of European Materials Societies on 12 July 2018 during the FEMS Junior EUROMAT conference held in Budapest.

Thomas Duguet is a CNRS researcher in the CIRIMAT laboratory in Toulouse, a component of the Chimie Balard Cirimat Carnot Institute. This award recognises Thomas’s approach to his research, which includes both fundamental and applied studies. His work focuses on the reactivity of surfaces, the formation mechanism of thin films, and metallic or ceramic coatings obtained by CVD (chemical vapour deposition), in particular for applications in the space industry.

These past years a large part of his collaborative projects have been devoted to developing a CVD coating process at low temperatures. This process is used to functionalise parts made of a polymer-matrix-based composite. These materials help to lighten and improve the thermo-mechanic stability of satellites.

What is the Communication Award for Excellence in Materials Science & Engineering?

This FEMS prize honours a young European materials scientist (under 40 years old at the time of nomination) for the significance of their work and ability to communicate effectively, whether in Industry or academia. As an ambassador for the European materials community, the awardee will communicate on materials topics in Europe in the 3 years to come. This will include a plenary lecture at the next EUROMAT conference set to take place in Stockholm from 1–5 September 2019.
